Rythm:  SQQ  SQQ (American Rhythm 1 34  5 67, or International Latin 234  678 - Note: The International Rumba starts on 2!!)
Time Signature:  4/4 timing.
Tempo:  Between 128-144 BPM for American and 104 BPM for International.
Music Style:   Slower, mainly Latin music, but not limited to Latin.  Romantic & sensual.

Character:  Slow, sensual movements incorporating rib cage and hip movement which we call Cuban Motion.

Where you can use it:  Any place where slow, romantic love songs are being played that are at the appropriate speed/tempo of a Rumba, and have the SQQ feel to it.  Variety bands will sometimes play a nice slow tune that you can Rumba to, and occasionally a Latin band will play a slower Latin tune which you may be able to Rumba to as well (make sure it’s not too slow, otherwise you should be doing a Bolero). As always, you will find all styles of music, including Rumba played at ballroom dances.
