Dance Floor(s): There is no dance floor, and space is just between the tables. There is only room for a very few people to move in a very small space. The “dance floor” is the large cement pad in the park. Highly recommend having dance sneakers to be able to dance on the cement without feeling like you are dancing in gum. A very small, crowded dance floor.
Ages: All! All! This is a very family friendly event! 21+
Crowd: Dinner crowds from the area. People who are dancing are the kind of people who just can't keep their feet still when they hear music. For the most part, you're going to have to BYOP (Bring Your Own Partner.) People from all over Vacaville come out to this concert series; friends, families, singles, couples, everybody enjoys creekwalk! The crowd is pretty tame. Most people are there just to enjoy the evening of music and goings on, but the dance area does get quite crowded by later in the evening (people loosen up as the evening goes on). The “people watching” is fantastic. Not many “dancer dancers”, but lots of people to wiggle and groove around with. BYOP if you want to do more structured partner dancing. Crowd is 21 and over. You can find people from their early 20’s to later 50’s. Depending on the popularity of the band, some nights can be packed, and other times it can be pretty quiet. Some of the people are drinking heartily, which makes it difficult to be on the dance floor with them. The liquid courage makes them like a wrecking ball out on the tiny dance floor. To put it nicely, you can do some great people watching there, if you catch my drift. BYOP if you want someone good to dance with.
What to Wear: Whatever you might wear for a meal out of a nice restaurant. It’s usually pretty warm out, so dress for the weather! Shorts and tees are totally appropriate. Definitely recommend dance sneakers as the cement dance area is so difficult to turn on otherwise. About ½ of the people go somewhat casually dressed, but then others go all out, more so the women than the men, but don’t feel like you’ll be out of place if you don’t.
Other Offerings: Excellent Italian fare and a bar! Vendors with food, drinks (alcoholic as well) and fun. The park is nearby, so if you have kids, they can have fun at the park too. Take a stroll along the creekwalk for a nice little evening jaunt. Stars recreational center is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, though the bar and grill is not open 24 hours. There are also 40 bowling lanes, a bowling store, 2 restaurants, Q-zar laser tag, a video arcade, and 8 tournament pool tables and a dart bar (Steel and soft tip) and shuffleboard upstairs from the sports bar and grill.
Comments: This is a great restaurant that has a good variety of musicians/bands come through. Their eggplant dipping sauce with bread is to DIE FOR!! I also love the butternut squash ravioli and the Gnocchi de Funghi. Both those dishes are delish!!! Highly recommend a meal here. As far as dancing: 1. Go with someone you can dance with. 2. You’ll only be able to dance dances that can take up very little space. Typically, at live music events you’ll be dancing a lot of West Coast Swing, East Coast Swing and Hustle (but maybe not at this place since space is so limited). You’ll also get an occasional Rumba, Cha Cha, Samba, Night Club 2-Step and Bolero. Creekwalk summer concert series is put on by the City of Vacaville.
I personally really enjoy the creekwalk events. It’s a community event, and I happen to love our Vacaville community. It’s also nice being out in the open air, and even if you don’t want to do any formal dancing, you can still wiggle around with everyone else. I like to grab a bag of kettle popcorn and dance with the crowds.
Typically, with live music you’ll be dancing a lot of West Coast Swing, East Coast Swing and Hustle. You’ll also get an occasional Rumba, Cha Cha, Samba, Night Club 2-Step and Bolero. With a Country band you’ll get more opportunity to do Country 2-Steps.
The music can be hit or miss at this venue. Sometimes it’s great, but sometimes it is not. Find out what band is playing before going. The crowds are less desirable because they are more of a “drinking” crowd than they are a dancing crowd, but if you go as a group or with someone you can dance with, you’ll be fine. Otherwise, expect a bar crowd….. This makes the tiny dance floor even harder to navigate. Just make sure you really keep your space or be prepared to be smacked into.
However, the food is surprisingly delicious. The few times I’ve had their food I’ve actually REALLY enjoyed it, and so did my company each time. Consider having dinner at this venue, or even appetizers.
